Alix Beaupierre on Patient Education for CAR T-cell Therapy Clinical Trials

By Alix Beaupierre, RN, BSN, OCN
PUBLISHED THURSDAY, JANUARY 1, 1970

Alix Beaupierre, RN, BSN, OCN, Moffitt Cancer Center, discusses the patient education necessary for CAR T-cell therapy clinical trials.

For a recent clinical trial on CAR T-cell therapy, Beaupierre led the creation of a patient education program, which she presented at the recent 2017 BMT Tandem Meeting. Patients were receiving basic education, but they did not truly understand the side effects. The nurses broke down what was necessary for patients to understand and created an educational program for patients, including a folder that included information on toxicities, a calendar outlining the flow of events, and follow-up care.
