Jennifer Wenzel on Prioritizing Representation in Clinical Trials

By Jennifer Wenzel, PhD, RN, CCM, FAAN
PUBLISHED THURSDAY, JANUARY 1, 1970

Jennifer Wenzel, PhD, RN, CCM, FAAN, of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, discusses why representation in clinical trials is not successful as an afterthought.

As funding for research gets tighter, there are less programs to ensure diversity in research – these are often the first programs to be cut when money is short. In response, nurses can advocate for funding and policies which allow for research promoting diversity. The only way to be sure that clinical trials have adequate representation is to make it a priority within research planning.
