Dawn Frambes on Caregiver Involvement for Symptom Management

By Dawn Frambes, PhD, RN
PUBLISHED THURSDAY, JANUARY 1, 1970

Dawn Frambes, PhD, RN, discusses the importance of involving the caregivers (and other friends and family) in the delivery of treatments for symptom management.

In a study examining trained caregivers performing reflexology for patients with advanced caregivers, it was found that there was a significant reduction in symptom severity. With those results, Frambes believes it is important to note the caregivers, friends and family member of patients as potential providers of certain care. This can be more cost effective and benefit the patient, their caregivers and the relationship between both.
