Eileen Eisenhower on the Benefits of Keeping Emergency Supplies in the Infusion Room

Video

Eileen Eisenhower, RN, BSN, CRNI, OCN, discusses the improvements to the CTCA-Eastern infusion room since they've added an emergency supplies box to handle hypersensitivity reactions.

Eileen Eisenhower, RN, BSN, CRNI, OCN, of Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Eastern Regional Medical Center, explains the improvements their infusion room has seen since the implementation of an emergency supplies "Red Box."

At CTCA-Eastern, a Red Box equipped with emergency supplies for a hypersensitivity reactions was installed in the infusion room. Having supplies on hand has allowed reactions to be caught earlier so they do not progress to a cardiac or respiratory arrest. This has dual benefit as nurses are able to “re-challenge” (restart the infusion) more often, as well as call for a rapid response much less. Additionally, both patients and nurses feel less anxious knowing that the supplies are in the room.
