Joanne McGovern, MSN, RN, CCRN, Chief Nursing Officer at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Eastern Regional Medical Centers, discusses how to encourage nurses to get involved with research.

For younger nurses, research can be folded into their schoolwork easily, but the opportunity should be encouraged for veteran nurses as well. It's important for nurses to witness how the innovation they explore can have a direct impact on practice. Assigning a mentor within the nursing staff who has research experience also can help nurses as they move through the steps of the research project.
