Be The Match Foundation: Raising Funds to Save More Lives

Article

Be the Match shares ways to help raise funds for their Foundation.

Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with a life-threatening blood cancer like leukemia. For those people, a cure exists. Nearly 70% of them will not have a fully matched donor in their family, so they’ll turn to the Be The Match Registry® for their life-saving marrow or cord blood transplant. For almost 30 years, Be The Match®, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP), has managed the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. To help support this effort of growing the registry, Be The Match Foundation raises funds to increase awareness of our mission and add new potential donors to the Be The Match Registry®.

Funds raised through the Foundation also support transplant research and provide grants to patients to ease the financial burden before and after transplant. Much of our work is made possible because of financial contributors, corporate sponsors, event participants and volunteers.

There are several ways that you can get involved with Be The Match:

Fundraising Events: Show your support by participating in one of our Walk+Run events or creating a Team Be The Match fundraising page with our easy-to-use online tool.

Individual Giving:

  • Workplace giving: Many companies offer workplace giving programs to encourage employees to give to charitable organizations. We accept gifts from all workplace giving programs. Check with your employer to see if you can use a payroll deduction program to give a gift.
  • Make an honor or memorial gift: Celebrate the life of a friend or loved one by making a donation in their honor or memory. Your gift can be used to recognize milestones in a blood cancer survivor’s life or to express your sense of loss when a loved one loses their battle.
