What do you know about ovarian cancer? Do you know that ovarian cancer continues to be the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers? Do you know there is no test that detects ovarian cancer? A pap test does not detect the disease. There are symptoms, which are subtle, that can mimic symptoms of unrelated conditions. For these reasons, ovarian cancer had been termed ‘the silent killer.’

According to the American Cancer Society, a woman’s risk of getting ovarian cancer in her lifetime is approximately 1 in 71. This year it is estimated that 21,980 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer, and 14,270 will die.

For two decades, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, a designated 501(c)3 organization, through its more than 20 chapters nationwide, has been working hard in our communities to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, and provide support, education, and hope for women affected by the disease, and their families: Ovarian Cancer is More Than a Woman’s Disease.

The NOCC remains steadfast in its mission to save lives by fighting tirelessly to prevent and cure ovarian cancer, and to improve the quality of life for survivors.
