Cancer Care Takes a Team

RASHEDA PERSINGER-ADAMS, NP, MSN, OCN | May 18, 2018

In this day and age, patients with cancer should have a care team made up of numerous professionals, according to Rasheda Persinger-Adams, NP, MSN, OCN, medical oncology nurse practitioner at Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital.

Obviously the oncologist and oncology nurses are vital in a patient's care, but others might come into the picture, too. For example, an endocrinologist might be needed if a patient's thyroid function becomes compromised, or a dermatologist for treatment-related skin rashes.

Overall, having a multidisciplinary team to treat cancer is likely to lead to better patient outcomes, according to Persinger-Adams.
