A Nurse's Role in Survivorship Care Planning

By Debi Boyle MSN, RN, AOCNS, FAAN
PUBLISHED WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 31, 1969

Oncology nurses play a special role in survivorship, ushering patients from treatment with an oncologist to a primary care physician afterwards, explained Debi Boyle, MSN, RN, AOCNS, FAAN, the editor in chief of Oncology Nursing News.

Nurses should tell their patients that there are likely to be new concerns in this next stage of life. They should also advocate for comprehensive survivorship care plans, so that the patient's future healthcare providers are up-to-date on the treatments they received, as well as any complications.
