Facing COVID-19's Challenges to Care for the Caregiver
CHRISTIE M. SANTURE, BSN, RN, OCN AND LYNNE O'CONNOR, MSN, RN
Tuesday, September 22, 2020
When the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic prevented Christie M. Santure, BSN, RN, OCN, from hosting her caregiver support group, she quickly adapted and switched to a virtual format. Santure knew that many caregivers may be feeling even more alone and isolated, and could benefit from the group.
COVID-19 was not the only major event in Santure's life this year. Her colleague at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Lynne O'Connor, MSN, RN, nominated her for CURE's 2020 Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing, which she won. Again, the in-person gala was canceled, but Santure handled the news with grace, and looked forward to the virtual event.
