Phyllis McKiernan, APN, John Theurer Cancer Center, discusses new findings about patient age and transplant possibilities.
While patients older than 65 previously weren't considered for transplant, new data suggest that transplant can be appropriate even for patients older than 75. Rather than looking at age, McKiernan suggests considering a patient's performance status. This allows the risk to be mitigated so that all patients have the best possible outcome and disease control.
