Richard Essner on Wound Care After Melanoma Surgery

Richard Essner, MD, co-director Melanoma Program, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, discusses the nurse’s role in managing wounds after a patient undergoes surgery for melanoma.

The wound-related issues that nurses and patients need to look out for include bleeding, fluid collection, surgical drain problems, and managing scars. There are also long term issues, such as preventing lymphedema.
