Immune-Related Adverse Events: What to Know

      February 17, 2019
      By Jarushka Naidoo, MBBCh
      Video

Managing immune-related adverse events is different from managing the effects of chemotherapy.

Immunotherapy agents have different adverse event profiles than traditional chemotherapy, explained Jarushka Naidoo, MBBCh, an assistant professor of oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University.

Oncology nurses should educate their patients about inflammation, which can be serious when it occurs in the heart or in the brain. Further, if members of a healthcare team are unsure about how to manage the immune-related adverse events, they should contact a specialist immediately.
