Jennifer Wenzel, PhD, RN, CCN, FAAN, of Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, discusses the importance of including minority patients in clinical trials.
Minority patients in particular may feel an extra burden to benefit the community at large. Most minority patients understand that their population has been left behind in medical research. Because of that, they want their experience to be able to benefit their community at large. Nurses have an important role in extending the opportunity for clinical trial participation to underrepresented groups and to help them succeed.
