Based on a secondary analysis of a large, randomized controlled trial Dionne-Odom found that patients of caregivers who had higher objective and demand burdens were less likely to survive over time.
Objective burdens included feeling like their time was being impinged upon and having less recreational or personal time.
As demand burden, or the caregiver feeling that too much is being asked of them by the patient, increased, there was a lower likelihood of patient survival.
