Charles Kamen, PhD, University of Rochester Medical Center, discusses the disparity in cancer-related distress that LGBT patients can experience.

Overall, LGBT patients with cancer have a higher level of anxiety than other patients. Kamen hypothesizes this is because LGBT patients have a higher baseline anxiety in their daily life. When those patients are diagnosed with cancer, any anxiety gets added to that baseline.
