Article

The Foundation for Women’s Cancer Continues the Fight to end gynecologic cancer one step at a time; race set for Nov. 4, 2018 in Washington, DC.

The Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) returns to the nation’s capital for another lively year of running, fun and support with its 9th National Race to End Women’s Cancer. FWC’s primary fundraising and awareness event focusing on gynecologic cancers, the race will take place on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Freedom Plaza and along Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, in Washington, DC.

Registration is open to anyone who wishes to support the cause, whether survivor, surgeon, family or friend. Participants have the option of partaking in a 5K run beginning at 9:30 a.m., or a 1-mile walk that begins at 9:45 a.m. All individuals are encouraged to form or join a team and raise money for the organization prior to race day.

The Race is part of a larger End Women’s Cancer Weekend, which includes a free Gynecologic Cancer Education Course on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at the JW Marriott Washington DC at 1331 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20004.

Also returning are last year’s National Race co-chairs, “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Camille Grammer and 2017 “Super Survivor” award recipient Wendy Ericsson. Each inspirational woman will serve as a host committee leader, providing encouragement and guidance while also leading her own respective fundraising teams, “Camille’s Crusaders” and “Wendy’s Warriors.” Grammer and Ericsson have battled cancer on more than one occasion, and use personal experiences to spread awareness about women’s cancer and to urge women to utilize the resources FWC has to offer.

The American Cancer Society estimated that in 2018 over 110,000 women will be diagnosed with a form of gynecologic cancer, and 32,000 will die from the disease. This includes not only cervical and ovarian cancers, but also uterine, vaginal and vulvar cancers.

The Foundation for Women’s Cancer offers extensive resources such as educational and awareness materials and programs, support and advocacy groups for victims and even research grants, none of which would be possible without fundraising efforts like the National Race to End Women’s Cancer.
