Radiation is still a main treatment modality in the prostate cancer space, though its role continues to change and expand, according to James B. Yu, MD, MHS, associate professor at the Yale School of Medicine. 

Radiation continues to be a main curative treatment for the disease in the adjuvant/salvage setting. However, it is gaining an even bigger role in patients with oligometastatic disease, which Yu described as, "just enough metastatic burden to be metastatic, but not so metastatic to be beyond the ability to obtain benefit from an aggressive treatment."
