The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) recently released the 40-page Cuidado del Paciente, the Spanish version of Caregiving. Both versions are pdf-downloadable booklets and are available on ASCO’s public education website, www.cancer.net.
The caregiving guides include sections on caregiving basics, such as how to determine caregiving needs and the different types of caregivers. The “caregiving at home” section includes an appointment information sheet, symptom tracking chart, medication list, and information about insurance and bills.
These guides also include information about caregiving in the hospital, caregiving from a distance, and exploring other caregiving options, such as professional home care services and community resources.
A 5-page section is devoted to “taking care of yourself” and provides practical information on balancing work and caregiving, managing family life and stress, and resolving family conflicts. The Spanish version of the guide is a welcome addition to resources that are now available to the Latino population.
