
Solavia Decision Suite: Key Clinical Insights for APPs and PAs
Co-developed by NYU Langone and Dana-Farber, the Solavia platform integrates EHR workflows, decision support, and pathway tracking for APPs and PAs.
Advanced practice providers (APPs) and physician assistants (PAs) manage critical aspects of modern oncology care, including regimen selection, toxicity monitoring, and care coordination. To support these interprofessional care teams, NYU Langone Health and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute co-developed the Solavia Decision Suite, an advanced oncology decision-support platform built for real-world clinical practice.
Commercialized through NYU Langone's Technology Opportunities and Ventures, the tool delivers real-time clinical guidelines, biomarker data, and pathway analytics directly to clinicians at the point of care.
Customizable Authorization Roles
Rather than restricting system access strictly by professional degree, Solavia utilizes adaptable user profiles configured by individual health systems. David Jackman, MD, medical director of clinical pathways and new business initiatives at Dana-Farber, noted that user authorizations accommodate varying state and institutional collaborative agreements. Health systems can grant APPs full navigation privileges to drive clinical care, assign view-only permissions, or require attending physician sign-off on treatment orders. At NYU Langone Health, APPs primarily navigate the platform, while physicians execute final order sign-offs.
EHR Integration and Workflow Efficiency
Navigating cancer treatment decisions often requires switching between clinical guidelines, reference texts, and ordering portals. Solavia addresses administrative click fatigue by embedding decision trees directly within electronic health record (EHR) software, such as Epic.
Michael L. Grossbard, MD, chief of hematology and medical oncology inpatient service at Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone, explained that clinicians launch pathways directly within a patient's Epic chart. Users select disease stage, line of therapy, and treatment nodes before transitioning directly into Epic Beacon for chemotherapy ordering. This integrated structure eliminates toggling between external tools, such as National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines or consent document generators.
Point-of-Care Support and Precision Oncology
Solavia houses 51 disease pathways updated two to four times per year, with an ad hoc review mechanism for immediate integration of practice-changing Food and Drug Administration approvals.
The system embeds actionable genomic biomarker guidance at specific decision nodes. For example, in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, the platform prompts clinicians regarding necessary molecular testing and appropriate targeted therapies across first- and second-line settings.
Additionally, Solavia prioritizes clinical trial enrollment by displaying eligible institutional protocols at each decision node prior to presenting standard regimen options.
Unified Communication and Quality Analytics
To reduce care fragmentation across multidisciplinary care teams, Solavia produces context-aware treatment summaries and consent forms written in patient-friendly language. Rather than presenting individual drug toxicities separately, the platform generates consolidated side-effect profiles for multi-agent combination regimens. For institutional quality monitoring, Solavia tracks on-pathway and off-pathway decisions. When clinicians select off-pathway treatments, the system requires reason documentation, yielding granular data to track care variation and support value-based oncology models.
Clinical Onboarding and Implementation
Co-developed using feedback from dozens of clinicians, Solavia's architecture reflects practical workflows across primary campuses and regional satellite facilities. The platform features an intuitive interface that requires minimal formal user training prior to clinical deployment, supporting seamless adoption across oncology care teams.
