Dose Modifications and Where Monotherapy Still Fits
How chemo-free lung cancer combos like amivantamab+lazertinib boost survival, with Copernicus tips to manage rashes and stay on therapy.
Monotherapy remains worth considering for patients who live far from a cancer center or who are older or more frail, for whom combination treatment may be too demanding, says Amanda Edmond, PA-C, of Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at Banner Gateway Medical Center, discussing amivantamab plus lazertinib in EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer. About three-quarters of patients prefer a chemotherapy-free first-line regimen, and she says the COPERNICUS safety data give her something reassuring to offer when patients voice fears about rash. MARIPOSA showed an overall survival benefit over monotherapy that she returns to in treatment conversations, while COPERNICUS efficacy has not read out at roughly 5 months. In MARIPOSA, median overall survival is projected to exceed 4 years and has still not been reached. Looking to data after the World Conference on Lung Cancer, Edmond hopes continued efficacy confirms that prophylaxis keeps patients on treatment longer.
