Jacquelyn Lauria, RN, MSN, APN-C, AOCNP, Advanced Practice Nurse, Stacey Goldstein Breast Cancer Center, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, discusses the importance of including a cancer survivor’s primary care doctor in the survivorship care plan.

Lauria says many cancer patients don’t even have a primary care doctor. However, it is important for the patient’s overall health after treatment to see a primary care doctor regularly.

If a patient already has a primary care doctor, Lauria says the patient should be asked if information from survivorship appointments can be shared with their primary care doctor.
