Janet Gordils-Perez, MA, RN, ANP-BC, AOCNP, Executive Director, Oncology Nursing Services, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, discusses switching to electronic medical records and the implementation of patient portals for cancer patients.

At the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, nurses have been using electronic medical records for three years, Gordils-Perez says. The nurses were the core group that developed the document to best fit their needs.

A multi-departmental team created a patient portal, Gordils-Perez says, and the Institute is still working on streamlining the process. The patient portal will also house survivorship information for patients, Gordils-Perez says.
